NTUC Club to bring big festive cheer to our migrant workers
Singapore, Oct 5 2024 - This celebration of Deepavali, four Migrant Workers Recreation Centres (MWRC) will come alive on October 31 with culturally-immersive concerts and activities, promoting one of the most spectacular festivities to date. This year’s revelries at Tuas South RC, Terusan RC, and Penjuru RC also mark a significant milestone for NTUC Club, as it undertakes the first major event since assuming management of the three centres in August 2024.
As part of a broader mission to foster inclusivity and community, NTUC Club’s stewardship of these recreation centres (RCs), through a Partnership Agreement between the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and Ministry of Manpower this year, highlights the Labour Movement’s dedication to all workers’ welfare, including Singapore’s migrant worker community.
Joining the festivities on October 31 is another RC located at 51 Soon Lee Road. It is managed by the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC), established by NTUC and the Singapore National Employers Federation.
These RCs serve as vital community spaces where migrant workers can recharge after their demanding workdays. More than just venues for relaxation, they are also platforms for cultural exchange and social interaction, enriching the overall migrant worker experience in Singapore. This year’s Deepavali events are set to further cement the role of these centres in promoting a supportive environment.
Mr Ng Sin Ain, NTUC Club’s Director of MWRC, says: “This year’s celebrations stand out as one of the most anticipated events thus far for our migrant workers. We are deeply committed to their well-being and through these meaningful activities, we want to reassure them that they are not alone in Singapore. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming environment that embraces their spirit and culture.”
On October 31, migrant workers can look forward to a kaleidoscope of cultural performances and interactive activities at the centres, reflecting the rich traditions of Deepavali. The festivities at the Tuas South, Terusan and Penjuru RCs are expected to draw a total turnout of about 25,000 attendees.
Migrant workers are in for a big treat at all four centres: The Deepavali programmes will feature nonstop entertainment for up to four hours in the evening, including local and foreign acts, belly dancing performances, a circus juggling show, lucky draws, and games.
