Communities of the Labour Movement to rule Downtown East in July

A month of heart-racing, record-breaking and fun-filled events awaits you, as NTUC Club celebrates the growth and transformation of its communities!

Singapore, 14 June 2019 – NTUC Club supports the Labour Movement to take care of the fun-being of workers. In addition, we nurture communities at every life stage through fun events and activities for young and old. This July, NTUC Club aims to promote intergenerational bonding, positivity and volunteerism through large-scale, cross-community events. Members of nEbO, U Live and U Sports, for the youth, active-agers, and sporting enthusiasts respectively, will be spoilt for choice by the variety of activities happening at Downtown East!

All events are open to members of the public.

1. Community Open House

The celebration kickstarts with the Community Open House happening on 7 July 2019! Estimated to draw in crowds of more than 1,000, key events include “D’Dash” - Downtown East’s very own amazing race, as well as “Grow with Us, Pot a Plant!”, where Downtown East will be setting the Singapore Book of Records for Largest Wall of Plants in Handpainted Pots! Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Heng Chee How, Deputy Secretary-General of NTUC, will be present to witness this occasion.

Community Open House is an event not to be missed as it will be bustling with activities from day till night, with live music performances, virtual-reality games, an outdoor movie screening, F&B booths and more!

2. Walk for Wellness 2019

Organised by the U Live community, Walk for Wellness is back for its 6th year to enrich the lives of active-agers. Come 27 July 2019, Downtown East will be transformed into a Wellness Village, with health talks and mass workouts. Unique to this year’s event is the augmented reality (AR) technologies that will be incorporated into the 5km fun walk. The event will see an estimated 1,000 participants! Key highlights of the event include a 5km Fun Walk: Tech Edition, guest appearances by Zheng Ge Ping and Team Strong Silvers.

3. W.I.S.H. 2019 – Bits and Pieces of Singapore

On 28 July 2019, youth volunteers from nEbO will be partnering with various beneficiaries across Singapore to produce and collect 200 unique illustrations. These art pieces will then be assembled into a final piece titled “200 Reasons why we love Singapore”. Apart from the art installation, volunteers and beneficiaries can take this opportunity to bond over various activities at the youth-led carnival with activities such as nostalgic Singapore games and singalong to national day songs. This event is part of the nEbO W.I.S.H. 2019 year-long programme to scale-up volunteerism, encouraging youth volunteers to spearhead and take charge of various Care initiatives.

In addition, keep a lookout for other events happening at Downtown East such as COSFEST XVIII: A Link to Your Fantasy happening on 20 and 21 July 2019, and the Community Awards Night taking place on 25 July 2019!
