Halloween Town Yokai Festival 1-31 October 2021

Introduction

27 September 2021: Boys and girls, get ready for one of the most anticipated programmes – Halloween Yokai Festival. This year’s fourth edition in October will see the well-loved Yokais (Japanese-themed characters) face a new foe that threatens to destroy their village. While the Yokais will be making appearances at Downtown East, their new adventure is taking a whole new level on social media for its fanbase.

From 1 to 31 October, keep your eyes peeled on Downtown East’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) as the Yokai story chapters unfold each week on every Tuesday and Saturday. While you lend your support to the Yokais in their battle against the Three-Tailed Scorpion Amikiro, look out for contests and win attractive giveaways like exclusive Yokai disposable masks. 

The digital adventures come with instructions on social media so you can help the Yokais boost their fighting prowess and rescue Kandy Onna, the heroine.

The Japanese-themed Yokai story and characters were co-developed by Downtown East and Singapore Cosplay Club. The Yokai disposable masks and face filters, plus IG and TikTok Story Series are designed, scripted and illustrated by NTUC Club. The series started with just 6 Yokai characters now has a cast of over 10.

The Plot

After Kandy Onna successfully sealed the Evil Clown last year, Yokai Village enjoyed peace for a year. But, they are now under the threat of a Three-Tailed Scorpion monster, Amikiro, who defeated and captured a weakened Kandy Onna. To save the town, the Yokais need to find the magic candy to help Kandy Onna regain her powers.

Mark The Dates

From 11 to 17 October, help the Yokais count the magic candy essential to restore Kandy Onna’s power. Go to any Downtown East social media platforms to participate and comment on the number of candy found for a chance to win $100 Downtown East vouchers! Double chances will be awarded for comments on the Downtown East TikTok page.

On 30 October, participate in a poll on Downtown East’s Instagram page and guess how the story ends – and win attractive prizes for helping the Yokais.

Meet The Yokais!

New Threat To The Yokais 

Amikiro - Used to be a mischievous Yokai who turned into a giant Three-Tailed Scorpion-like monster after a mysterious encounter. Left to roam freely, Amikiro destroyed villages and killed countless Yokais and humans.

The Casts

Kandy Onna - An imperial magician who defeated Evil Clown last year, saving Yokai Town. She now needs to regain her powers from the magic candy that was used to seal the Clown to fight the new villain.

Evil Clown - Trapped in a seal by Kandy Onna last year, the Evil Clown is desperate to free himself. Let’s see if he will make a pact with the Yokais or continue to seek revenge.

Hunki Gymo - A fearsome warrior who was turned into a gnome by the Evil Clown.

Demono - A fierce blue bird under the curse of the Evil Clown.

Osma Onna - A dancer cursed with additional limbs that can destroy anything she touches.

Red Flame - One of the protectors of the Candy Temple, the powerful dragon will destroy anything that crosses its path.

Grimo Ripa - A Grim Reaper who provides a safe passage to the gate of Heaven for the Yokais.

Thrid Eye Banda - One of the powerful mediums served as a guardian at the Kandy Temple.

Singing Doll - A celebrity in the Yokai Town, she learnt how to sing from the legendary Yokai Composer, Master Oni.

Urei - She was once a kind hearted girl who was cursed by an evil witch who trapped her soul in a painting.
